Wherever men and women are condemned to live in extreme poverty, human rights are violated. To come together to ensure that these rights be respected is our solemn duty. – Joseph Wresinski, founder of ATD Fourth World
ATD Fourth World envisions a world without poverty, where everyone has equal access to all human rights, where everyone can be fully themselves and treated with dignity, as whole human beings, and where each person is a vital part in building this world.
ATD Fourth World overcomes the injustices of persistent poverty and social exclusion by bringing together people from all walks of life, learning from people who face poverty every day, and running family and community projects.
In May 2014, 50 delegates from across the United States came together for our national strategic planning retreat. The goal was to reflect on our past 50 years of work in the US and to plan for the future. There were tears, laughter, and a lot of amazing suggestions – and from all of our discussions came the vision statement above. Let us know what you think!
